The Fowler Album

This outstanding leather-bound album from the early 1900s, depicts Fowler Steam Engines. It has recently been catalogued by a team of volunteers and staff, making it available for viewing for the very first time.

Right side view of 'The Steeplechaser', no. 3271. This was an experimental single cylinder traction engine designed by Max Eryth in 1877. The 12ft (3.7m) diameter wheel was said to improve traction. Eryth's own verdict was, 'It steers as well as any, it pulls rather more and runs very much better, but only a perfect fool would buy it.' However, it was sold to J.T. Parton of Nantwich, Cheshire.
