Caravan Club New Forest Meet, Cadnam, Hampshire, 1914

In 2008 three photograph albums, which had been hidden for many years, were discovered at The Caravan Club’s headquarters in West Sussex.

The images inside show an early Club meet in Cadnam, Hampshire. Held from 30 May to 8 June 1914, these photographs were taken two months before the outbreak of World War I.

Club meets were social gatherings of caravan enthusiasts. In the early days caravanners were wealthy ladies and gentlemen and these meetings lasted a week. Today, a Caravan Club meet is more commonly known as a rally and is a popular event normally held over a long weekend.
