Rex Acme

Not on Display - In Reserve Collection

The TT Sports model was introduced in 1925. It was named in recognition of Walter Handley’s two winning rides for Rex-Acme in that year’s Isle of Man TT races. The company was formed in 1922 by the merger of Rex Motor Manufacturing Co. and Acme Motor Co. A range of motorcycles was offered throughout the 1920s using both engines of their own design and from various outside suppliers including JAP, Sturmey-Archer, Villiers and Blackburne as seen here.

This motorcycle was purchased by 1958 World Champion racing driver Mike Hawthorn as a restoration project. It was given to the museum following his tragic death in a road accident in 1959.
